Shaikh Ahmed was appointed President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) – the governing body that oversaw the activities of Dubai International and Dubai Duty Free, among others. Emirates, the national carrier, was launched at the same time and he was appointed Chairman. So far the biggest deal of 2013 was signed by Emirates and Formula 1 group in the beginning of the year. It’s a five-year agreement appointing Emirates as a Global Partner of Formula 1 starting with the 2013 season.
