Lewis Hamilton triumphed to snatch 2nd place in the 2007 Driver’s Championship from Fernando Alonso and finished just 1 point behind Kimi Raikkonen and then went on to win the World Championship in 2008. Unexpectedly, it has to be said, easily beaten by his teammate Jenson Button, Lewis had his own annus horribilis in 2011. Although driving to three wins, he retired in three races and seemed to be dogged by misfortune – either of his own making (including spirited tussles with Massa) or not, and certainly looking less than his usual cool self. In 2013, however, the spotlight really was on him and his podium at Malaysia demonstrated who the team favoured, plus his PR profile was continuing to rise all the way up to dominating the 2014 season and winning the Championship. He’s now in first place in 2015 and doesn’t look like he’ll be giving it up anytime soon.
